Hello, I’m Jen..
“Jewellery with an ancient feel but with a modern philosophy in mind.”
What does wearing jewellery mean to you?
Have you ever worn a piece of jewellery and instantly felt confident and empowered?
I began creating jewellery back in 2018 but have long been making art in many forms through-out my life. From creating a small clothing business to making masks and wearable art for theatre, body adornments have always been at the forefront of my imagination. This feeling of self expressionism through the clothes and jewellery I wear took me down the path of learning about Enclothed Cognition; ‘The systematic influence that clothes and jewellery have on the wearers psychological processes’- Hajo Adam, Adam D. Galinsky - thats right, what we wear directly influences our mood and behaviours!
So if jewellery can effect how we feel and act, we must choose very carefully and with intent.
A light bulb moment, and a question I had to ask myself; Why do I wear jewellery?
To answer this question, I had to dig down to who I am.
I would consider myself as a quiet, deep thinker. A traveller searching for something. Someone who considers self-love and self-discovery important but could also do with a little sprinkle of confidence now and then.
Jewellery is a statement to me. When I wear jewellery (admittedly the bigger the better) an overwhelming sense of ‘me’ appears!
So why is this?
The adornments act as ‘words’ from my story. Talismans and tales of places I’ve been and dreams of who I want to be. A clear vision of the type of person I am, an open page of my story and the code to what influences and navigates me through life.
This silent language, the code we wear, helps us to find our people, our tribe. It helps us to fit in when we are with people we share views and morals with, but equally makes us stand out in a sea of unfamiliar narratives.
Ok so wow, can I make jewellery that forms the ‘words’to other peoples stories?
So this has been my mission. Perhaps you can connect to some of my pieces in a way that lets your light shine and just makes you feel you.
Maybe you find the perfect‘word’, a sentence in your own storybook.
